LGLR – Larissa Airbase Progress [Upd: 5th Nov 2024]
We are happy to announce you the beginning of Larissa Airbase Development at Greece.
Some words about the Airport:
Larissa Airport “Thessaly” was built in 1912. It was the commercial airport of Larissa until 1997 when it closed for civilian traffic.
Currently the airport is being used only by military aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force, whose 110th Combat Wing is stationed there.
The runways do not have an ILS.
USAF and NATO uses sometimes this airport as base for their Middle East and Mediterranean Operations. In 2018 it was announced that US Air Force (USAF) MQ-9 Reaper drones were temporarily based at Larissa while their usual base in Africa was being updated.
Development Timeline:
- 25 October 2024: Development Started
- 05 November 2024: Started creating main runways, taxiways and basic airbase structures as hangars, shelters and aprons.
